A fifteen minute tuk tuk ride from town, plus a five minute boat ride, is the Tad Sae Waterfall. There is another larger waterfall in the area, but I am here to do some zip lining, i.e. playing monkeys swinging amongst the trees. This costs about £25 / $35 and is a good adrenaline fuelling way to see the scenery. Having done it before, I am somewhat blasé and did the course quickly, though there were some nice long and elevated rides.
There is also an elephant park where you can feed or ride them, but having done it in Chitwan in Nepal Laurie and I pass up this.
Back into town for lunch, I have ham & cheese sandwich. These simple pleasures have become luxuries on this trip, and the cheese is real cheddar, albeit a bland one. But the bread is a good soft crusty white baguette.
In the afternoon, we visit some of Luang Prabang’s many Buddhist temples. The highlights were the That Phu Si and Wat Tan Phu Ji temples. These require a small entrance fee, but it’s only 20 Kip (£1.75). There’s a 200 steps climb up to the best views over the town and passing river, as well as the local airport.
