Wrapped up fully clothed in my sleeping bag, I was quite warm during the night. However, this quickly changes when I get up in the night to go for a pee. By 7am there is frost all over my tent.
We back track to the Pangla Pass, where it is much clearer today (see my banner photo of this blog).
Back at Tingri, where Rhi, Caroline and their escorts to hospital are recovered and rejoin the truck. I volunteer to help change a tyre on the truck while Laurie goes to buy me some lunch. She comes back with a vacuum packed something that looks like it might be chicken. Chicken it does indeed turn out to be, but only its feet. I go hungry.
We get to Shigatse tonight, and the hotel is truly shocking. Only two to a room, each person with a double bed and it has clean western style toilets. I even get to have a hot shower. This can’t be true. There’s no heating though.
For dinner, Laurie and I find a restaurant near the monastery / temple (the second biggest in Tibet next to Potala Palace) which has a mixed menu and an owner who speaks fluent English. I have yak burger and chips. For those unacquainted with yak meat, it’s a dry beef, but quite tasty, with a hint a gaminess. John and Tracy are also there tucking into steak and beef burger.
