Day 63 - 03 October 2009; Dharamshalah

Today we drive to Dharamshalah. This is where you will find McLeod, the exile home of the Dalai Lama. It is at high altitude, at cloud level and above, which adds to the mystical quality of the place. There is not much to see in terms of attractions, except for the temple, but it is like you would expect Tibet to be if it had not been ruled by the Chinese. It is full of Buddhist monks and western hippy types with various cafés and shops full of books, crafts and curios lining the streets. There are also lots of monkeys scouring the ground and buildings for food, as well as numerous cows wondering around aimlessly, as in much of India.

There is not much of a nightlife in the town as most places shut at ten or eleven o’clock. I do find a nightclub within one bar, but I didn’t go in, mainly as there seemed to be no women there.
