Day 317 – 14 June 2010: A New You Tube Sensation?, Grand Teton NP

Today we go on a hike through the majestic scenery of the Hidden Falls trail and up to Inspiration Point – a popular name in US national parks – by Jenny Lake in Grand Teton NP. The mountains are up to four thousand metres above sea level, but with no foothills their rise from the lake is especially intimidating. I keep thinking that postcards have been put in the background of my vision.

It’s a six hour hike up and down which ends with a short boat ride across the lake then a short walk to the end of the trail. A few of us take a quick diversion to Moose Lake, as some of our crew have spotted some moose. All we spot is moose droppings though.

Neil, the seventeen year old Scot on a summer trip before starting university, has taken to bringing his fiddle with him on hikes to play when we reach the peaks. He plays a mean jig too and, as a few of us have been taking videos of his various performances, I can see a You Tube sensation coming. He certainly seems to be popular with our fellow hikers.

Christina is also in my hiking group, but I am growing impatient with her constant photo stops and posing in yogic positions. How many photos of themself can a person want?

Back at the campsite, some of us go down to the lake to go for a swim after our exertions on the trail. Despite the sun shining all day, the temperature is still very penetrating on the genitals and the swim turns into a seconds long dip after which we sun ourselves on the bank drinking beer while Christina does more yogic posing.

me, um, doing, some, er, yogic posing
