To Turkey: for some reason there are two checkpoints to get out of Bulgaria, and we then have to go to one booth to get Turkey visas. Our passports are then checked twice before we are let in.
As we approach Istanbul it looks like a concrete sprawl of unfathomable proportions (picture). That all these high-rises could be built within the last few decades seems incredible, especially as so little of it seems looks like a building site, unlike much of Eastern Europe.
At the hostel, we are in a room for 30 people, though some of our party opt to upgrade to private rooms. The roof of the hostel has a 5 star of the city though, and I settle down for a few beers and get to know some of my fellow travellers a bit more.
The Bosphorus divides Istanbul into two continents, so we still haven't quite reached Asia.
